Operations Coordinator — Crane & Rigging
Full-Time · Amarillo, TX · Reports to: Program Manager & Operations Manager
About Panhandle Steel Erectors
Panhandle Steel Erectors, Inc. is an Amarillo, Texas crane and rigging company founded in 1947. Our fleet runs from 40-ton hydraulic truck cranes to 550-ton all-terrains and lattice-boom crawlers, supporting taxi crane, steel erection, fabrication, tilt-up, and industrial maintenance work — plus three decades of wind-turbine maintenance for major wind-energy clients — across a 300-mile radius of the High Plains in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas. We're a 50-person company: big enough for 550-ton iron, small enough that the operations desk knows every crew and customer by name.
The Role
The Operations Coordinator is the connective tissue between customers, field crews, and the crane fleet — the desk where every lift starts. You'll take customer requests by phone, email, and text; match crane configurations to the job and draft quotes; build and communicate daily schedules; dispatch cranes and support equipment in real time; secure permits and escorts across four states; and keep customers, crews, and management in sync from first call to final ticket.
What You'll Do
Customer Requests & Quoting
• Receive and coordinate customer requests through phone, email, text, and other communication channels
• Select crane configurations and equipment requirements, and draft customer quotes for management review
• Assist in generating customer-requested job documentation
Scheduling & Dispatch
• Develop daily schedules and resource assignments for management review, and communicate schedules, assignments, and job details to field staff
• Schedule and dispatch resources in real time to meet customer requests
• Coordinate timely delivery of cranes and support equipment to job sites
• Monitor the status and routes of field units to coordinate and prioritize their schedules
• Flag potential resource or scheduling conflicts to management as they arise, and propose solutions
Permits & Compliance
• Secure all required permits, escorts, road closures, and other approvals from governing bodies for scheduled work across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas, and ensure ongoing compliance
Records & Cross-Team Coordination
• Keep records, logs, and schedules of all calls made and received, and relay relevant information to operations personnel and management
• Coordinate with the Service Manager on equipment availability, breakdowns, and scheduled preventive maintenance
• Review field tickets and crane-hour submissions for accuracy on each job
• Other duties as assigned
What You'll Need (Required)
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current state-issued Driver's License
• Experience in dispatch or logistics management, ideally within crane or heavy-equipment dispatch
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong customer service and organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
• Proficiency with phones, computers, and general office equipment, including Microsoft Office
What Sets You Apart (Preferred)
• CDL Class A
• 4+ years of crane, rigging, and commercial driving experience, or a comparable construction background
• Two-year college degree
• Working knowledge of DOT oversized/overweight permitting — a plus, and trainable on the job
• Familiarity with Fleet Cost & Care NexGen resource management software
Compensation & Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Competitive wage in a drug-free work environment, plus a matching IRA and company-paid employee health insurance.
