Job purpose

Diesel Mechanic/Crane Technician is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of diesel trucks and various crane equipment (i.e. Hydraulic Truck, All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawler Cranes, etc.). Must have experience as a mechanic with diesel engines, electrical and hydraulics (heavy equipment and cranes are preferred).

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Completes root cause analysis of mechanical failures

  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges

  • Tests mechanical, electronic, electrical, and hydraulic products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper operation and compliance with OEM specifications

  • Prepares for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness

  • Maintain conformity to safety requirements and other regulations

  • Properly fills out working reports, hour's reports, timesheets, hour's overviews, work orders, and expense reports

 

Qualifications

Qualifications include

  • A minimum 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Mobile Crane Mechanic/Technician

  • Operates and inspects diesel trucks and cranes to diagnose defects.

  • Reads and understands operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and fit for duty test

  • Flexibility to work overtime when necessary

  • Must have own tools, clean driving record

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CANBUS, PAT, EKS, ECOS, LICCON systems

  • Experience working with different forms of mobile crane equipment, specifically Grove, Grove GMK, Linkbelt, Manitowoc, Liebherr, Terex, Tadano.

 

Duties
* Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and 

   damaged parts.
* Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules.
* Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, 

  and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and 

  drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, clutches.
* Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements and safety.
* Maintains vehicle records.
* Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns;    

  maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
* Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation 

   publications.
* Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for 

   accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

 

Working conditions

The employee may be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment. The employee could occasionally be exposed to extreme temperatures, fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level in the workplace is moderate.

 

 

Physical requirements

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires employers to identify essential functions of a role. As a result, this job requires the employee to climb, stand, and lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Additionally, must have the essential ability to climb around, on and under cranes to properly inspect, maintain, and assure the crane is assembled and disassembled properly. Must have the ability to kneel, stoop, reach, and to push and pull.
